71st Miss World Festival, India
Since 2010, the global wild tiger population has increased by approximately 74%, from about 3,200 individuals to the current estimate of 5,574 tigers. This significant growth is a result of collaborative efforts among 13 tiger range countries and conservation partners like WWF, who set a goal to double tiger numbers by 2022.
Over the past 12 years, tiger numbers have notably increased in Bhutan, China, India, Nepal, and Russia. These countries have implemented effective conservation strategies and demonstrated great dedication to tiger conservation. However, the overall trend shows that tiger range and habitat are still declining in most areas, emphasising the need for continued conservation efforts.
WWF has prioritised work in 22 tiger landscapes to help achieve the shared vision of the Tiger Conservation Coalition. These efforts aim to secure connected habitats, expand tiger ranges, manage conflict between people and tigers, end exploitation, and ensure sustainable financing for conservation and community livelihood opportunities.
Despite the increase in tiger populations, the continued decline and fragmentation of tiger habitats pose a significant threat. Conservationists are working to reverse this trend through initiatives aimed at protecting and connecting tiger landscapes, essential for the long-term recovery of tiger populations.
The recovery of many tiger populations is considered an extraordinary conservation achievement. However, progress has been uneven and remains fragile, underscoring the need for greater political commitment and investments in tiger conservation to ensure continued success.
The increase in tiger populations serves as a call to action for enhanced political commitment and investments in tiger conservation. It highlights the need for sustained efforts to protect and restore tiger habitats, address human-tiger conflict, and secure the future of these iconic species

Experience the allure of the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve, a haven for majestic tigers, as it extends a warm invitation to the inaugural Tadoba Festival in Chandrapur, Maharashtra, the heart of tiger country.
Set to debut in 2024, the Tadoba Festival aims to celebrate the remarkable journey of Tadoba, shining a spotlight on its global achievements. The event underscores Maharashtra's steadfast dedication to both wildlife preservation and community advancement. Over three days, the festival will showcase the rich biodiversity of the TATR, honouring the contributions of forest personnel, local communities, scientific institutions, and NGOs. It will serve as a platform to discuss the challenges and solutions crucial for the future of tiger conservation. Join us in this momentous celebration of nature's splendor and the spirit of conservation.
Australia Zoo and Wildlife Warriors are renowned for their dedication to wildlife conservation, and their partnership with the Sumatran Tiger Protection Conservation Program is a testament to their commitment. As the 71st Miss World Festival continues, the focus on conservation efforts is more relevant than ever.
The Sumatran tiger, once a dominant force in the lush forests of Sumatra, now faces the threat of extinction. With fewer than 600 individuals remaining, the need for conservation action is urgent. Poaching, driven by the lucrative black market for tiger skins, has decimated their numbers. Illegal logging and agriculture have further exacerbated the situation by destroying their habitat and reducing their food sources.
To combat these threats, the Tiger Protection and Conservation Units (TPCU) in Sumatra have been bolstered by the efforts of Steve and Terri Irwin, along with Australia Zoo and Wildlife Warriors. What started as a single anti-poaching unit has now grown to over 50 dedicated forest rangers. These brave individuals work tirelessly to protect the remaining tigers, conducting foot patrols, deactivating snares, and gathering evidence to prosecute poachers.
Supporting these efforts is crucial, and donations can make a tangible difference. A $20 donation can provide the veterinarian team with essential medical supplies to treat injured tigers, while $50 can cover rations for a ranger on a 10-day patrol. Additionally, a $100 donation can provide transport for a tiger from the forest to a veterinary clinic, potentially saving its life.
Community involvement is also vital in these conservation efforts. Local communities play a crucial role in protecting critical tiger habitat through the management of community forests. These forests act as a buffer zone between the national park and surrounding villages, helping to prevent encroachment and illegal activities.
I am proud to represent the conservation efforts of Australia Zoo and their programs to highlight the importance of conservation and the positive impact of organisations like Australia Zoo and Wildlife Warriors. Together, we can ensure a future where the majestic Sumatran tiger continues to roam the forests of Sumatra.
By adopting a tiger, you're not only supporting the ongoing protection and care of these magnificent animals but also contribute to vital research and monitoring programs. Your adoption helps us continue the missions to save tigers and their habitats for future generations to enjoy.
It’s hard to imagine having your leg trapped in a metal jaw. It’s hard to imagine which would hurt more - the torn flesh, the fractured bone or the anguish of a tiger caught in a snare. Your donation can make a real difference by providing immediate care for injured tigers and supporting anti-poaching efforts.
Every contribution helps protect these endangered animals and ensures they receive the treatment they need to recover and thrive in the wild.
Poaching is on the rise and deforestation is rampant, posing significant threats to tiger populations. Your support is crucial in combating these challenges and protecting these majestic creatures from extinction. Together, we can make a difference and secure a brighter future for tigers in the wild.
